Therapeutic Counselling & Therapy :
‘Our concern is the synthesis of all areas of the personality. That means (counselling) is holistic, global and inclusive.'( Assaglioli)
As a therapeutic counsellor, my aim is to sit alongside you in your experience of life, enabling you to find within you the tools for your own healing. My profound belief is that we all have the capacity to heal from traumas and life transitions, but sometimes we need a helping hand along the way. Counselling can be this helping hand, reaching beyond pain and anxiety to a place of relief, release and expansion. We move beyond current circumstances or history towards an ability to thrive.
In my own journey of therapy and counselling, the profound experience I have had, of sitting with another, in the company of someone who has no agenda, with the willingness to respect, hear and guide gently, has been the major tool in my own healing from a past of distortion and loss. I began this journey age 19 years and though some forty years on, I still value the counselling I received all those years ago. I now offer a combination of psychotherapy and counselling, which really means that I can go deeper on the journey of growth with you, or we can focus on just one or two areas of your life. It will always be your choice.
Counselling can be a mirror for your healing, a space to bring grief, loss, deep feelings or anxieties and move beyond them to a place of contentment, fulfilment and more. The journey of counselling and therapy can be long or short, and is always your choice. We will however create a contract for your own safety and review this regularly.
The style of counselling I offer is what can be called ‘person-centred and integrative’ – meaning I choose to follow the needs of my clients rather than suggest lots of techniques and tools. However, as I have gained immeasurably from many years of training and skill building, I do use the tools of body awareness, creative arts, sandtray and transpersonal visualisations when necessary. I offer the place of a wise elder, looking over my shoulder at the wisdom within you who sits opposite me, and hoping I can bring that out in our work together.
I have a particular interest in linking the sacred, spiritual aspects of living with the psychological and embodied. The relationship between therapist and client is a key part of this exploration. I always adhere to the philosophy that you know best and can learn to trust me and the process. Theoretically I am influenced by Carl Rogers of the Person centred tradition, Carl Jung and his wonderful values of the symbolic and archetypal aspects of life, and Assaglioli who was the founder of the transpersonal and psychosynthesis movement.
In the past I have been co-ordinator and pioneer of services for children and families within Cancer Care and Palliative care, offering therapy to both adults and children in these fields – I have pioneered school services where there were none. I have supported therapists and clients within the fields of survivor of abuse and domestic violence, and within the Adoption and Fostering Field. I have experience of divorce, panic attacks, relationship crises, depression and hold a specialism in grief and bereavement, having written a number of books in this area and offered numerous trainings. I have also pioneered new services and groups within the transpersonal field for women in particular on their cycles. I have supported clients whose main aim was growth and fulfilment.
Some of the issues I can offer counselling with include, but are not limited to:
- Relationships, separation and divorce
- Bereavement, transitions and other losses

What happens from here:
If as a result of reading this far, you are interested in a first meeting with me, I very much look forward to a call or email from you. Each journey with a new client is a tentative step on the path towards wholeness, and I wish you well whether you decide to call me or not. I offer a free twenty minute call when you can tell me some details and we can decide if to meet. Or you can email me these details. We can then arrange a diary date as the next step. In this first meeting I will take some details from you and you can meet me and ask questions. We will then decide if to continue from there. Meeting me is important – a match between counsellor and client is vital for the counselling to work well. I will charge for this first meeting. Once we decide to go ahead, we will create our contract for the work.
I may not have space when you first contact me. If this is the case I will put you on my waiting list. I am available on different days in different venues. Here are my details:

Email – firstname.lastname@example.org – email me with a small request and I will respond.
Currently I am available in Bristol on Tuesdays, Frome on Wednesday, and Mendip Thursdays and some Fridays.
